Introduction

The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) is committed to improving the quality of work for its members through various initiatives, including campaigns for justice, human rights advocacy, equal pay, and safe, secure workplaces.

The Challenge

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, businesses worldwide faced unprecedented challenges. As countries began reopening with strict health guidelines, ensuring compliance became crucial. PSAC needed a solution to manage the number of people entering their premises while ensuring all entrants were vaccinated and posed no threat to others. They required a Capacity Management app to monitor daily and hourly footfall and maintain safe occupancy levels.

Solution

The Covid-19 Office Reopening App was developed using Microsoft Power Apps, making it an ideal solution for PSAC’s internal use. The app features multiple functionalities to assist with capacity management, catering to all types of PSAC employees. With Power Automate creating workflows, the app includes portals for administrators, visitors, and managers. Visitors can easily book slots using a calendar that indicates availability, while building managers can view, approve, or reject requests.

Outcome

The project resulted in an exceptional user experience, with each portal designed to meet specific user needs, optimizing the process of creating and managing requests and approvals seamlessly. PSAC now efficiently maintains daily footfall within their premises, fully complying with provincial COVID-19 regulations. The app supports a safe, organized, and gradual return of employees to the workplace, enabling employees to create access requests and allowing managers to monitor, review, approve, or decline these requests effectively.
